한국어 수업을 하다보면 “여행하는 것을 좋아해요.” 라고 하시는 분들이 적지 않습니다. 학생분들의 여행 이야기를 듣다보면 저도 꼭 그 장소에 있는 것 같아 기분이 좋아지는데요. 사실, 저도 여행을 정말 좋아합니다. 이 글을 읽는 여러분들은 여행, 좋아하시나요? 오늘은 작년 11월의 이야기를 해 보려 합니다.

11월의 화창한 어느 날, 저는 나가사키행 비행기에 몸을 실었습니다. 4년 전, NHK의 드라마 <료마전> 을 보고 난 뒤 언젠가 가 보고 싶었던 곳 중 하나였던 나가사키.
One bright day in November, I took a
flight to Nagasaki. Nagasaki was one of the places I wanted to visit after
seeing NHK's drama "Ryoma-den".
“나가사키는 비가 많이 와. 내가 여행할 때엔 하루도 빠짐 없이 비가 내렸어.”
제가 나가사키에 간다 했을 때 주변 사람들 10명 중 6명 정도에게 이 소리를 들었기 때문에, 가방에 작은 우산을 하나 챙기고 갔습니다. 하지만 공항을 빠져나오자 그런 소리가 무색하게도 날씨는 너무 좋았습니다.

I heard people say, "Nagasaki has a lot of rain. When I traveled, it was
raining all day." So I took a small umbrella in my bag. But when I left
the airport, the weather was fine.

in Nagasaki is see the night view.
화창한 날씨와 더불어 야경은, 제가 지금까지 본 것 중에 가장 아름다웠습니다. 11월 중순, 밤은 쌀쌀했지만 그런 걸 모두 잊을 정도였습니다.

그리고 그 다음 날, 글로버 정원과 데지마에 다녀왔습니다. 일본에서 가장 먼저 서양에 개방된 지역인 나가사키만의 매력을 느낄 수 있었습니다. 특히 글로버 정원에서는 일본이 아닌 다른 나라로 여행을 간 듯한 느낌을 받았습니다.
글로버 정원과 데지마는 걸어서도 갈 수 있는 거리였기 때문에, 오전 중에 두 곳을 모두 다녀올 수 있었습니다. 시간이 남아 조금 멀리 떨어져 있는 사카모토 료마의 가메야마사중으로 향했습니다.
수업을 하다보면 “저는 길치예요.” 라고 말하는 분들이 적지 않습니다. 저 역시도 '길치' 이기 때문에, 여행을 할 때마다 길을 잃어버리곤 합니다. 이번에도 마찬가지였습니다. 산을 오르고 올라도 보이지 않는 가메야마사중. 30분 정도를 오르다 느낌이 이상해 살펴보니 주변엔 아무것도 없었습니다. 다시 산 밑으로 내려와 사람들에게 물어보니 반대방향이었습니다. 그리고 다시 20분을 올라가니 가메야마사중 기념관이 보였습니다.

minutes. When I came down the mountain again and asked some people, it was in
the opposite direction. Then I went up again for twenty minutes and saw the
Kameyama Fourth Memorial
Hall.
혼자서 간 나가사키 여행은, 저에게 꽤 큰 인상을 남겼습니다. 일본 같으면서도 일본 같지 않은 분위기도, 길을 물어볼 때 친절하게 웃으며 대답해주던 사람들도, 그리고 3일간의 여행에서 거짓말처럼 화창했던 날씨도.
4계절이 뚜렷한 일본에서도 이제 봄이 찾아오고 있습니다. 화창한 봄날에 여러분들도 여행 한 번 가 보는 건 어떠신가요?
