Bird Watching
By Teacher Bob
One of my hobbies is bird
watching. Whenever I go for a walk, I keep an eye out for the birds. I live in
Osaka and spring and autumn are great times for spotting unusual birds because
they fly through on migration and drop into the parks for a rest and something
to eat. If you visit one of the parks in spring or autumn, the chances are you
will see bird watchers with binoculars and cameras (with enormous zoom lenses)
trying to spot these birds. If you see a group of them together all looking at
something, then it’s probably something unusual! My two favorites are the Blue
and White Flycatcher (O-ruri in Japanese) and the Narcissus Flycatcher (Kibitaki).
One bird I haven’t seen yet but really want to see is the Siberian Rubythroat (Nogoma).
Apparently, it’s easier to spot in autumn so I will try again this year!
