Christopher: New Zealand

New Zealand is a country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, situated to the east of Australia. It has a heterogeneous population of some four million people. The lingua franca is English, which is perhaps no surprise given the fact that the country was colonised by the English in 1840.

The island nation, which for almost a century was considered by many to be 'a farm for Britain', has a vastly different topography depending on where one is. The land is one of stark contrasts indeed, and encompasses sandy beaches, mountain ranges, farmland plains, dense forests as well as  flat land plains. The country has four main urban centres, notably Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Auckland is the biggest of the four urban centres, boasting a population in excess of a million people, while the capital Wellington has a modest 500,000 people, and Christchurch and Dunedin have populations of 300,000 and 50,000, respectively.

New Zealand is well known around the world for its agricultural exports, which include meat and dairy products (such as lamb, beef, cheese and ice cream) and fruit (mostly apples and kiwifruit). The country is also famous as a land of outdoor pursuits. This is true given that outdoor activities abound in New Zealand. Visitors can enjoy everything from fishing and hiking to bungee jumping and white water rafting!

New Zealand is really great, please come visit someday!
