Reaction English Phrases You Can Use in Free Talk
By Teacher Jill

I often use short expressions like “Really?”, “I see,” or “That makes sense” to show that I’m listening and engaged. When something surprises me, phrases such as “Wow!”, “No way! ” or “I didn’t know that,” help me react naturally without stopping the conversation.

I also believe that positive and empathetic reactions make conversations more meaningful. Phrases such as “That’s great!”, “I’m happy to hear that,” or “I’m sorry to hear that” help me respond appropriately and build better connections. Asking follow-up questions like “What happened?” or “Can you tell me more?” keeps the conversation going and shows genuine interest.

By practicing these reaction English phrases, I’ve become more confident in free talk situations and more comfortable expressing myself in everyday conversations.

A Student’s Comment That Brightened My Teaching Journey
By Teacher Sam

As educators, we often dedicate our hearts fully into what we do, like crafting lessons, ensuring that each student has the best chance to succeed. While we’re not always sure how our efforts are being received and what results come from them, there are moments when a simple comment can remind us why we embarked on this path in the first place.

One such moment came from a student who said, “Thank you for teaching me! I learned a lot from you.” At first glance, it might seem like just another ‘thank you,’ but to me, it meant so much more.

There were days I wondered if they truly understood the material or if my teaching style was resonating. So, hearing these words from that student felt like a gentle reminder that, even in the moment of uncertainty, we’re still making a difference.

Teaching isn’t just about delivering content. It’s about creating an environment where students feel supported, heard and motivated to grow. When a student acknowledges that they’ve learned something meaningful, it’s not just a reflection of what they’ve gained, it’s a reflection of the bond we’ve formed along the way.

As I move forward into another challenging lesson, I’ll always carry this comment with me. It’s a powerful reminder that no matter how small the gestures may seem, the impact of teaching is real and lasting.
