Luciano- I paesi dove ho vissuto (parte 1) L'Italia e l'Inghilterra(The countries where I've lived (Part 1): Italy and England)

 Ciao a tutti,

Hello everybody,

Today I will tell you about the countries where I 've lived until now!

We obviously start with my country, which is Italy. I was born in Trapani, Sicily, where I grew up and lived for most of my life. My first long experience in another city was when I moved to Pisa where I lived for about four years. I was nineteen and for me it was a beautiful change.   I made many friends who now live in different parts of the world and with whom I am always in contact. We had many beautiful experiences that we always remember with great pleasure!

Pisa is a fairly small city where you can easily get around by bike. It's very famous for the university, which is divided into many historic buildings scattered around the city center. The small size and the large number of students make it a very young and practical city. I'm very fond of Pisa and when I can I always go with pleasure!

After my experience in Pisa, I returned to my hometown where I spent some time without doing much. At that time I thought that my city, and my country in general, were not enough for me. I wanted to travel, know other countries, see the world and have new experiences! So I decided to leave Italy and go to England, to be precise, Plymouth. Plymouth is a seafaring city in southwest England, famous for the Royal Navy naval base which is the largest in the country. I thus found myself faced with all the difficulties of living in a foreign country such as language, bureaucracy, the world of work, habits, houses, food and lifestyle.

I was alone in a place I didn't know, with a language I didn't speak and so many things to do!
I started working as a cook after a week. The beginning was not brilliant but after a short difficult initial period, I was able to overcome all the difficulties; and after a couple of months everything was fine. I was able to communicate, I had all the necessary documents, a stable job, I lived in a decent house and started making friends!

In the end I stayed in Plymouth for about a year, during which time I worked hard and enjoyed myself less but overall I had a great experience. I learned a language, learned to work hard, and learned how to live and get by in an unfamiliar place. I also made many friends so I don't regret anything. It was an experience that changed me and changed my life!

The only negative was the weather! The English climate is notoriously not among the best in the world and sadly I can't deny it! Plymouth is not particularly cold but very windy, sometimes the wind was so strong that I could hardly walk, and of course it always rains! Not really always and not always strong but let's say that almost every day, at least in a part of the day, there was often a very annoying light drizzle and obviously the use of the umbrella was made very difficult by the strong wind which was almost always present.

Apart from that I was able to find my balance and I was starting to feel good there, but my goal was another; it was just a passing experience before my real destination... Australia!

Alya-A Clichéd Question about Pastimes

“What are your hobbies?” It's a question that you often hear when having a conversation, but it leads you to know how interesting that person is. In my case, I’m interested in playing video games, watching TV series or movies and doing make-up. My hobbies may sound typical but they enhance my life and allow me to de-stress while remaining mentally active.

You may think that playing video games is a childlike pastime and for entertainment only, but it also hones your skills such as critical thinking, decision making, multitasking and so on. Recently, there are a lot of devices used to play video games and tons of various games. Personally, I prefer computer and phone games. I’m really into stimulator, MOBA, adventure and shooting zombies games. It really excites me playing these games and awakens the competitive spirit in me.

I have an unusual taste in TV series and movies. I’m really into suspense, horror, fantasy, comedy and crime-related shows. It’s such a surprising thought how a TV series or a movie changes your perspective and tells you things you never thought you needed.

My childhood had a big influence on my passion for doing make-up. My cousin, a freelance make-up artist in America, chose me as her canvas when she practiced her skills, and it inspired me to follow her path. I am not

into glam make-up. What fascinates me are magical and Halloween make-ups. However, my skill is kind of rusty for not doing it often. The last time my face was touched by make-up was early 2020.

As you are about to finish reading my blog, you know that a piece of me is an introverted artist. If you see me in person, you might think that my hobbies don't suit me at all. I look girly and cute, but underneath it there’s a girl who loves doing things differently and that's what makes me unique. Interesting, right? How about you, what are your hobbies?

Susana-Mi último viaje al extranjero(My last trip abroad)

On my last trip abroad I went to Seoul in South Korea. It's been almost a year and a half since that trip. Unfortunately, the pandemic then began and I have not been able to travel anywhere. So every now and then I remember that last trip. When I went to Seoul it was winter so it was very cold. But I wrapped myself up a lot and had no problem.

One of the things I like the
most about Seoul is the number of cool coffee shops there are, so whenever I go I like to go to a new coffee shop for coffee. What I especially like is the atmosphere of the coffee shops in Seoul. Usually the decoration is elegant and the music quiet. That is why I can spend hours sitting there sheltering myself from the cold and enjoying a delicious coffee with milk.

Of course, I also really like Korean food. But unfortunately I don't like spicy food very much, so there are some dishes that I can't eat. The good thing is that there are also many other dishes that are not spicy or that are only slightly spicy. There aren't many Korean food restaurants in Spain, but fortunately there are quite a few in Osaka, so every once in a while, when I miss Korean food a lot, I go to a nearby restaurant to enjoy my favorite dishes. Lately, I hardly ever go out to eat to respect the government's recommendations to stay home and maintain social distancing, but I hope I can go eat my favorite Korean dishes soon. Hopefully, it will be possible very very soon!

Jazz-SILVER LINING AMIDST COVID-19

COVID-19 has altered our lives for more than a year now. It has had an enormous impact on our daily lives. Working  from home was recommended to many of us and it lasted for quite a while. The little things that we used to take for granted before the pandemic brought us happiness that we never even noticed. Although many of us struggled because of the abrupt changes, we still managed to get through it and learned to live in the new normal. Some of us had plans laid out but due to the restrictions brought by the situation, these plans had to be changed. Yet we discovered new hobbies that helped us cope up with the stress and anxieties. A "blessing in disguise" one might say.

One of these hobbies is gardening. Some people who suddenly had to stay home discovered their passion and interest in taking care of flowers or plants in their houses or apartments, plantitas as we call them in the Filipino language.

Another hobby that some of us discovered was enjoying the beauty of nature and appreciating the natural scenery on the outskirts of town since most people had to return to their hometowns before the lockdown happened. Some people enjoyed solitude and took the opportunity to relax.

The aforementioned activities were just some of the ones that most people got into during the pandemic.

Life might throw challenges at us and things may not go as we plan, but we must always look at the silver linings at times of difficulty and uncertainty.
