Chris Knight:Easter in New Zealand.

Easter is a very important holiday in the Christian calendar. Next to Christmas, it is perhaps the most important holiday of the year. Every year, it is celebrated in many countries around the world.

Easter is a celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The holiday is both a public and a religious holiday in New Zealand, so schools, banks, and many businesses are closed. It's basically a four-day weekend
Good Friday is the day that Christians remember Jesus' crucifixion. They believe he was resurrected three days later on Easter Sunday and they celebrate this by going to church.

Easter is a special time for children, too. They usually eat chocolate Easter eggs, paint hard-boiled eggs, or take part in an Easter egg hunt, where they look for eggs hidden by their parents in their backyard or nearby garden.
On Good Friday, it is traditional to eat hot cross buns. These are spicy brown buns with white crosses on them.

Easter is also a time when families get together, just like they do at Christmas. Easter is in spring, either March or April. Easter this year falls on the first Sunday in April.
At Christmas, we often say, “Merry Christmas”.  At Easter, we usually say,” Happy Easter!”.

“Happy Easter!” to you all this year, from Chris.
