Part 3 : Hiroshima Day 1 Part 1

After completing the Shimanami Kaidou I ended up in Onomichi city. Having not planned anything I had no idea what to do next or where I would be spending the night (hopefully not outside again) so I headed to the nearest CoCo Ichi to decide where to go, what to do and, perhaps more importantly, find somewhere with a roof to stay in.
 
While eating, I tried to find a place to stay and found that the closest place with the cheapest hostel rooms available was Hiroshima so I booked a room and went to catch the train.  After barely making the hostel's check-in cut off time due to the train being delayed I basically passed out. I guess the lack of sleep from the night before finally caught up with me.
 
The fantastic weather continued the next day and the first place I visited was the Atomic Bomb Dome and the Peace Memorial Park and Museum. It's a very thought-provoking place and the museum does an excellent job of demonstrating the horror of nuclear weapons.
 
After leaving the museum, I went to Nagataya, an okonomiyaki restaurant very close to the Atomic Bomb Dome, where I got to try some vegan-friendly Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. It was fantastic. But which is better you ask? Osaka-style or Hiroshima-style? Well, I'm not telling. I will say that I enjoyed it so much I tried to go back the next day before leaving Hiroshima but, unfortunately, the queue was a mile long and I had a Shinkansen to catch!

しまなみ海道の旅を終えて、私は尾道市にたどり着きました。何も計画をしていなかったので、次に何をするか、どこで夜を過ごすか（また外でなければいいのですが）、どこに行くか、何をするか、そしておそらくもっと重要なことですが、どこか屋根のあるところに泊まるかを決めるために、近くのCoCo壱に向かいました。

食事をしながら、泊まるところを探そうとしたら、一番近い場所で一番安いホステルの部屋があるのは広島市だとわかったので、部屋を予約してから電車に乗りに行きました。 電車が遅れましたが、ホステルのチェックイン締切時間にはかろうじて間に合い、その後は気絶するように眠ってしまいました。前日の寝不足が祟ってしまったのでしょう。

翌日も素晴らしい天気が続き、最初に訪れたのは原爆ドームと平和記念公園・資料館でした。ここはとても考えさせられる場所で、博物館は核兵器の恐ろしさを見事に表現していました。

博物館を出た後、原爆ドームのすぐ近くにあるお好み焼き屋さん「長田屋」に行き、ビーガン対応の広島風お好み焼きを食べました。最高でした。でも、どっちがいいかって？大阪風と広島風？まあ、それは言えません。あまりに美味しかったので、翌日、広島を離れる前にもう一度行こうとしたのですが、あいにく長蛇の列だったので、諦めて新幹線に乗りました。
