Golden Week 2022

I moved to Japan in January 2020 at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, so since I arrived I haven’t had the opportunity to travel around Japan freely without thinking about the potential consequences. However, this is about to change for Golden Week 2022 as I have a trip planned to Hiroshima.

When living in the UK, I think most people are not overly aware of all the different places in Japan, Obviously Tokyo is well known from movies and TV, but most other places are hardly mentioned. Hiroshima is another place that is commonly known because of history, or at least that is why I am familiar with it. So when deciding where I wanted to go it was a pretty easy choice for me.

I'm very interested in seeing how Hiroshima was affected by history and how it has developed from the past. I'm hoping to visit the A-Bomb Dome, the Peace Memorial Park and Museum. The other place I’d like to visit is Miyajima, my reason for this is simply due to people telling me I should visit. This is how I like to travel, I don't like overly planning or googling places to visit or things to do. I'd much rather just go somewhere and experience it for myself. I'm sure Hiroshima will be beautiful and full of character, I look forward to spending some time there and hope to create some special memories.

私が日本に来たのは2020年1月、コロナウイルスのパンデミックが始まった頃だったので、日本に来てから、自由に日本を旅行できる状況ではありませんでした。しかし、2022年のゴールデンウィークには広島への旅行を予定していて、この状況は変わろうとしています。

イギリスでは、多くの人が東京については映画やテレビで知っていますが、それ以外の場所はほとんど知られていません。一方で広島は、歴史的な背景からよく知られている場所でしたので、少なくとも私は知っていました。ですので、どこに行こうかと考えたとき、私は広島が思い浮かびました。

私は広島が歴史的にどのような影響を受け、過去からどのように発展してきたかを見ることに、とても興味があります。原爆ドーム、平和記念公園、資料館を訪れたいと思っています。もう１つ訪れたい場所は宮島です。その理由は、友人からお勧めされたからです。私は旅行が好きですが、計画を立てたり、Googleで検索したりするのが好きではありません。それよりも、その場所に行って、自分の目で見て体験したいのです。広島はきっと美しく、魅力溢れる場所だと思うので、そこで時間を過ごし、特別な思い出を作りたいと思っています。
