Anna: 4th of July
On
July 4th in the United States, Americans celebrate Independence Day,
also called 4th of July. This day celebrates the anniversary of July 4th,
1776, when the United States became its own country without British rule. The 4th
of July didn't become a national holiday until 1870, and now
usual celebrations include a fireworks show and outdoor activities like barbecues
and family picnics, since it is in the middle of summer. Although it depends on
the family or area, usual 4th of July foods include hot dogs and
hamburgers. Sometimes concerts or festivals are held, usually with red, white,
and blue decorations and songs celebrating America. Many of these songs and
activities talk about the Revolutionary War or the War of 1812, where
America and Britain fought against one another. The 4th of July is
also a federal holiday, so all government services like banks and post
offices are closed, and many people have the day or weekend off of work.
