Hiroshima - Part 1

I
arrived in Hiroshima at around 1pm, I made my way to the hotel to drop off my
bag and then set off to walk around. I decided to head towards the Peace
Memorial Park, from my hotel it was about a thirty or forty-minute walk. As I
was walking I was comparing Hiroshima to Osaka in my mind. The most obvious
difference for me was that Hiroshima has a lot more green; grass, bushes and
trees. Hiroshima has a lot more winding roads in some parts compared to central
Osaka, which follows more of a grid pattern.
When I arrived at the Memorial
Park, I saw the A-Dome and straightaway I could feel the importance of it and
the park. There were crowds of people walking around, a long line into the
museum and people enjoying their Golden Week holiday. Although the line was
long, it went down pretty quickly. I went inside and again felt overwhelmed by
the amount of history and the stories from 1945.
Later that evening I went looking
for somewhere to eat, obviously it was very busy everywhere because of Golden
Week, but I didn't mind, it was part of the holiday. I found a restaurant which
said it offered all of Hiroshima's famous food. I ate a lot of different
things, however, I can't remember their names.
The next day I set off walking
again. I found a sushi restaurant which was very cheap, so I tried it and it
was delicious. With my stomach full I carried on walking around, the weather
was okay, too warm for a jacket but the wind made it too cold for a T-shirt. I
went to Hiroshima Castle and took some pictures. In the evening I went to an
expensive all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant, it had all kinds of food;
spaghetti, chicken, fish and roast beef. After eating, I went back to the hotel
and relaxed, I was very tired from all the walking I had done.

私は午後1時頃に広島へ到着し、ホテルに荷物を置いてから、散策することにしました。ホテルから平和記念公園までは、30～40分ほど歩きました。歩いているとき、私は頭の中で広島と大阪を比較していました。私が感じた最も大きな違いは、広島の方が芝生や茂み、木々など、より多くの緑があるということです。広島は、碁盤の目のような大阪の中心部に比べ、ところどころ曲がりくねった道がありました。
平和記念公園に到着すると、すぐに原爆ドームを目にし、その重要性を実感しました。公園では、歩いている人や資料館に並ぶ人、ゴールデンウィークを満喫している人など、大勢の人がいました。入館までは長蛇の列ではありましたが、あっという間に入ることが出来ました。中に入ってみて、改めて歴史の重みと1945年からの歩みに圧倒されました。
その日の夜、食事をする場所を探しました。ゴールデンウィークのため、どこもとても混雑していましたが、それも休日の醍醐味なので気にしませんでした。そして私は、広島のご当地料理が全部食べられるというお店を見つけました。いろいろなものを食べましたが、名前は思い出せません。
次の日、私はまた散策をしました。とても安い寿司屋を発見したので食べてみると、とてもおいしかったです。お腹がいっぱいになったので、また歩き回ることにしました。天気はよく、上着を着るには暖かかったが、Tシャツでは風が冷たかったです。その後、広島城へ行き、写真を撮りました。夜には、スパゲティ、チキン、魚、ローストビーフなど、あらゆる種類の料理が食べ放題の高級ビュッフェレストランに行きました。食事の後は、ホテルに戻ってくつろぎました。歩き回ったので、とても疲れました。
