Ulysses- Street Food in the US
When you think of street food, the United States probably isn't one of the countries that first comes to mind. In the last decade, however, there has been a bit of a street food boom in the US - all thanks to food trucks.
The modern food truck trend began during the recovery from the Great Recession of 2008 and 2009. For budding restauranteurs and recently laid-off chefs, food trucks were an economical way of starting a business, and for customers, keeping up with the locations of popular food trucks became a kind of hobby. And as with all things, social media helped speed things up, bringing food trucks and hungry customers together.
In my hometown of Los Angeles today, it's not uncommon to spot a food truck roaming the streets or posted up in a parking lot. Local festivals, concerts and other public events also feature food trucks serving up a wide range of tasty meals from fast food to gourmet.
If you're out and about and find yourself a food truck, why not give it a shot? You might be pleasantly surprised. And don't forget to snap a selfie for social media!
