During my time at university, I was given the opportunity to participate in a community extension program, a volunteer work experience that I will forever cherish. Little did I know that this would shape my perspective on teaching, community, and personal growth in ways I could never have imagined.
What made this program unique was that it wasn’t just about teaching them the lessons but about understanding their individual needs, finding ways to make the material accessible, and creating an environment where they felt safe to ask questions and explore.
My time as a volunteer reminded me that sometimes, the smallest gestures—like offering a helping hand or sharing a lesson—can make a world of difference.
